Forgetting to refill the oil? Very bad. Especially if you are flying a plane.

I seized a car engine once by forgetting to keep topping off the oil, but I can only imagine the horror of that happening in the sky...

Lol these types of articles are the reason Safety majors think the “preventative maintenance” is a load of horseshit

Many years ago, when I was living in Norfolk, VA, I was at a party when my friend, who was actually drunker than I was, and I decided to go for a boat ride at 2:00 am. The boat owner, who was also drunk, needed a battery to start the boat, so he grabbed a car battery and put it in the boat. We connected it to the motor by wrapping wires around the posts. Every time you tried to start the motor it would throw sparks. My friend and I set off, and soon we were dead in the water in the middle of the Elizabeth River off downtown Norfolk. Sparks were flying into the boat, which was awash with water and gas. And soon, a giant ship, under tow, was bearing down on us. They lit us up with the spotlights as we foundered in the water, but they didn’t hit us. No way they could have stopped in time. We managed to get the boat restarted, holding our finger over the kill switch because we had lost the plug. We finally made it home about 4:00 am. I told this story to a friend in the Coast Guard, and he said, “They make Coast Guard safety videos about idiots like you.”

Wow he had multiple chances to avoid this. First as an A&P he not only forgot to fill it, he clearly didn’t check the dipstick after he finished. Then he turned around and failed as PIC by not doing a proper preflight. Sounds like he’s ok at least. That’s the good part.

Oh man, plane safety videos are funny. If I can figure out to put the ones our school releases into a link, I’ll put them here.
